Share Festival 09 - Closing

Quest'anno non sono riuscito a passare... posto i commenti di chiusura asd

Newsletter 10.31.2009
Share Festival 2009 – Market Forces - Torino
What did Market Forces inspire in you at the Share Festival?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear friends,
as we take down the exhibitions, the time has come for us to say good-bye. You can’t imagine how empty we feel without the supermarkets, shopdropping, randomly bouncing balls, electronic insects, magic dust, generative art, friends, experts, conference speakers, students, artists, journalists and families with lots of kids around us.

The time has come to thank our guests and hear about what they – and you, friends of the Share Festival – found most inspiring at this year’s festival.
We invite you to download the Share Festival 2009 - Market Forces catalogue in pdf format.

We’ve already gathered just how much you liked our new venue, the Regional Museum of Natural Sciences, where all the festival exhibitions, conferences and the Orchestra Meccanica Marinetti performance were held, seeing as you filled all the events on the jam-packed Festival programme to the brim! You also seemed to appreciate Espace, where the Optofonica collective performed, the Quazza Laboratory at the University of Turin, where the Digital Orbit conferences were held, and the studios of the Virtual Reality Multimedia Park, where you seemed to hang off every word at the CReATE conference.

Over six thousand of you came! Thanks to you, we’ve become one of the most important events in Italy for the digital arts and new media.
The leading, avant-garde quality of the contents and perspectives showcased by the Piemonte Share Festival was also reflected in the attention and interest shown in us by local and national media, which dedicated without exception flattering words and key space to the event.

It was not only the in-depth theoretical discussions and interesting perspectives opened up by the conference that attracted you though. In fact the activist edge of the festival also attracted curiosity and interest, as Shopdropping in downtown Turin proved great crowd-magnet to students, ecologists and curious standers-by, who accompanied Salvatore Iaconesi and Oriana Persico, who presented the installation Squatting Supermarket at the festival, in their rounds.

Even the virtual suicide on Facebook won you over, as over 1000 users of the world’s most popular social network committed seppukoo, and over 15,000 connections were made to the website www.seppukoo.com following its launch at the Piemonte Share Festival!

Turin is the capital of the future” was the full-spread headline printed across the national culture section of La Stampa. Together with Piemonte Share Festival, another two events were a part of Digital Orbit this year, the Regione Piemonte project designed to celebrate the leading role the region plays in new cultural movements tied to ICT. Together with View Conference and Club To Club, as well as CReATE, Piemonte Share Festival has taken Piemonte a step further into the future.

Visit us tomorrow to see the best of the post-festival, featuring feedback from artists and conference speakers, photos and videos.
Discover what Market Forces has inspired for the future of the people who took part in the event.

The last extra-festival event will be Ennio Bertrand’s workshop at the PAV on Saturday 28th November. After the workshop at 6 pm, an encounter will be held to take stock of this year’s event, in the lead up to the Sixth Piemonte Share Festival in 2010!

2) WHY WE'RE GOING
There are loads of reasons to come to Copenhagen in December. Here's three:

* THE WORLD WILL BE WATCHING: The Copenhagen Climate Summit is said to be
'the most important summit ever', with governments, corporations and NGOs
having spent the year hyping it up as D-Day for a global climate deal.
Whatever happens, it's a moment when the world's attention will be on
Copenhagen.

* RESIST THE FALSE SOLUTIONS: There are a series of days of action planned
during the summit, ranging from a mass action to shutdown the harbour of
Copenhagen, to a day of civil disobedience to turn the UN summit space
into a people's summit for climate justice.

* BUILD A GLOBAL MOVEMENT: Thousands of activists from more than 100
countries around the world will be coming to Copenhagen. Deal or no deal,
we need to build an international grassroots movement for climate justice,
and this will be a unique opportunity to do that.

if and when we get to Copenhagen, we are well prepared and in loose
affinity groups. Many of us may not know what the significance of
Copenhagen COP15 is (or even what it stand for) so here will be our chance
to really engage with it and understand how it is best for us individually
to take action. The evening shall run like this:

B) ACOPALYPSE NOW! - 15 NOVEMBER, BRISTOL

aCOPalypse now! - a day of teach-ins, discussions and presentations
critiquing COP 15 and carbon trading
15th of November, Arnolfini, Bristol

Carry on polluting - a beginner's guide to the farce of carbon trading
Oscar Reyes - Carbon Trade Watch
11.30am - 12.30pm
The UK is at the heart of the global trade in carbon - but is this a
system that is aimed at dealing with the threat of climate change, or
allowing carbon-intensive companies to carry on polluting? Oscar Reyes of
Carbon Trade Watch looks at the EU Emissions Trading Scheme and what it
all means.

Carbon trading - who profits and who pays?
Larry Lohmann - The Corner House
12.30pm - 1.30pm
We are told that carbon trading is 'the most cost effective way of dealing
with climate change.' In this talk, Larry Lohmann (Editor of 'Carbon
trading - a critical conversation on climate change, privatisation and
power') looks at who stands to gain by this 'cost effectiveness' and how
it is often communities in the Global South that end up paying.

The Copenhagen climate talks - where did it all go wrong?
Jutta Kill - FERN
2.30pm - 3.30pm
We are hearing all the time that there need's to be 'a good deal' at the
UN climate talks in December. Jutta Kill of FERN outlines why we should
prepare ourselves for the worst, and why we can't afford to pin all our
hopes on this particular process.

Ten ways the EU is failing on climate change... and many more alternatives
Oscar Reyes - Carbon Trade Watch
3.30pm - 4.30pm
The European Union routinely claims 'leadership' on climate change. But in
creating the world´s largest carbon market, promoting agrofuels and Carbon
Capture and Storage as solutions, it is failing to offer environmentally
sustainable and socially just alternatives for tackling the climate
crisis. This workshop will look at how the EU´s carbon market is failing,
show how EU negotiators are contributing to a bad deal in Copenhagen, and
highlight how the EU subsidises some of the dirtiest industries in the
name of 'clean' technology. It will then look at the alternatives needed
to promote climate justice in the EU and beyond.

Introducing 'Operation Bike Block - Putting the fun between our legs'
Laboratory of Insurrectionary Imagination
5pm - 6pm
You've heard why COP is a problem. Come to a presentation on forms of
creative resistance and the potential of bicycles. An opportunity to hear
how you can take part in the Lab of ii''s latest designing and plotting a
rebel swarm of bicycles in the coming weeks, with plans for Copenhagen.

C). CLIMATE JUSTICE NOW! SPEAKER TOUR, 16-22 NOVEMBER

The climate crisis has been caused by rich industrialised countries, but
it is the world's poorer majority who are paying the highest price, as
extreme weather events become more common, freshwater glaciers melt, and
droughts increase. We believe that this means rich countries owe a
'climate debt' to the global south.

Speakers include:
* Md Shamsuddoha (Equity Bangladesh)
* Eriel Deranger (Indigenous Environmental Network) on tar sands
* Beatriz Souviron (Bolivian Ambassador to the UK)

Mon 16 November, NEWCASTLE, Curtis Auditorium, Herschel Building,

MAFIA DANCE FESTIVAL (in TANZANIA)

A 15-day multi-cultural music and arts festival offering a step into paradise...
Featuring 150 Top International and African Artists on 4 stages...
Mafia Dance Festival will be hosted in one of the most extraordinary exotic island of the world ... MAFIA ISLAND ...
The festival venue will be located in a coconut forest, next to the beach...!!!
The name Mafia is derived from the Arabic, meaning “group” or “archipelago”, or from the Swahili meaning “the land that heals”.
Mafia island is the largest of a small archipelago of islands and lies 25km off the coast of Tanzania in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Much of the island and surrounding archipelago is a designated Marine Park, and remains an untouched paradise of original coastal forests, surrounded by one of the world's richest marine habitats.
Mafia has a rich history going back 2.000 years partly due to its location in the trading route, between Kilwa and Zanzibar, and there are many ancient ruins scattres between the archipelagos that give you the feeling you have stepped back in time!
Tanzania captures the very essence of the African continent, and distils it into one country, an African Eden of natural riches and cultural wealth. The land of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Serengeti, Zanzibar, Ngorongoro Crater, the Maasai with 120 more tribes, is a very welcoming and approachable country of Africa…
The tickets for Mafia Dance Festival will be limited to 3000. We advise you to get your tickets as soon as the presale starts, as demand is very high and very few tickets will be available at the doors (if not sold out).
We want to protect the island's untouched nature and the quality of the festival. We believe that this is the best for all of us to enjoy and the best way for the organisation to facilitate everyone for this first edition.
Organised transport will be provided ! All information for line ups, venue, flights-transport and more, will follow in October 2009 through our official website, facebook and myspace page.

cemento e dora
